Stolen Chair's Community Supported Theatre kicks off November 22nd at the The Peter Jay Sharp Theater off-Broadway! And it's already the talk of the town:

"Stolen Chair's CST is ground breaking.  It directly integrates the company's love of long-term learning with their devotion to real community building.  I can't wait to see it all unfold."
-Jennifer Wright Cook
Executive Director, The Field

"Love. Love it. Theatre as community building. Isn’t that supposed to be the point?"
-Simon Ogden
Editor, Next Stage Magazine

"I think [Stancato's] central question is a rather important one...It will be fascinating to watch Stolen Chair, and the other recipients of the ERPA funding, explore these new alignments."
-Andrew Taylor

...and the CST will be profiled in the next issue of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, "The newspaper of the non-profit world"

What is Community Supported Theatre (CST)?
More questions? - Email CST@stolenchair.org

Community Supported Theatre (CST) is an innovative new way of connecting theatremakers and theatregoers. The idea comes from the world of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), where a small community of members literally provides seed money for a local farm in exchange for their share of a season's worth of harvested produce. In Stolen Chair's CST, a community of members will invest "seed" money in the company's ensemble-driven theatrical process and then reap their share of a season’s worth of creative "harvests."

Listen to or watch the CST model presentation by Jon Stancato for ERPA's Public Display of Invention at WNYC's Jerome L. Green Performance Space, Sept. 21, 2009.

Listen to Martin Denton of NYtheatre.com discuss with Jon Stancato and Aviva Meyer of Stolen Chair and Jennifer Wright Cook, executive director of The Field, about this exciting new opportunity for sustainability.

Who would join a CST?

Community Supported Theatre isn't for everyone, but if one of these sounds like you, maybe it is for you:

Artistic Admirers: When you go to the theatre, you're the one who always stays for the backstage tour and the Q&A with the cast and creative team, the one who watches all the special features on a DVD. The CST offers one-of-a-kind access to a community of artists, insights into their process, and the opportunity to give feedback that will actually shape an original work of art.

Grassroots Giants: You already belong to a CSA and a community garden, and support your political causes with potlucks. The CST provides a way to stay engaged with an intentional community while winter frost covers your veggies and politicians are in the off-season.

Lifelong Learners: Always reading and researching, you go to gallery talks and enroll in continuing ed classes so you can surround yourself with high-level discourse and dialogue. The CST offers a space for armchair scholarship and intelligent debate about a new topic each season.

Social (Network) Butterflies: You belong to Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, and Twitter, and have an online social life as rich as your offline one. You'll get exclusive membership in the CST's social network, where you can connect (online and in real life!) with interesting people doing interesting things.
