Commedia goes global!
Take Intro to Commedia dell'Arte with Stolen Chair, part of Global Commedia dell' Arte Day

On February 25, 2010, simultaneous Commedia dell' Arte events will occur all around the world as theatre companies, scholars, students, and audiences celebrate this 500-year old comic tradition, which has inspired popular culture from Shakespeare to Seinfeld. This worldwide festival is being promoted by the Italian cultural association SAT and organized by Faction of Fools Theatre Company in Washington, DC.

Stolen Chair Theatre Company brings the celebration to New York by offering a workshop to introduce performers to this beloved theatrical style:

Introduction to Commedia with Jon Stancato

Location: Space on White
81 White St, New York, NY 10013
Date/Time: Feb 25, 7-10pm
Cost: $45
RSVP: http://www.stolenchair.org/education.html

Students will receive an intensive introduction to the characters, masks, gags (lazzi), and scenarios of the commedia. By workshop's end, all students will be ready to improvise scenes in duets and trios with four of the most popular masked characters: Harlequino, Dottore, Pantelone, and Brighella. No experience necessary.

Whamm, Bam, Kapow! is for every kid who has watched an action movie and wondered how they make the fights look so real! A professional stuntman, fresh from the set of the blockbuster Sherlock Holmes, will teach kids how to (safely!) pull hair, yank ears, slap, punch, kick, choke, run into walls, drag, push, fall, slip, and roll. We’ll even create fights between super-powered characters! Each child will receive a YouTube video of their “fight reel.” No experience is necessary. Just come ready to work up a swe at and laugh until your sides hurt!

Whamm, Bam, Kapow!

Location: First Congregational Church, Old Greenwich, CT
Date/Time: March 13, 10am-2pm
Age: 8-12
Cost: $80 (includes pizza lunch and video reel!)
