Two grant awards & profile in American Theater Magazine
In this challenging economic climate, Stolen Chair can continue to create and perform our distinctive critically-acclaimed original works with the generous support of the New York State Council on the Arts and the Nancy Quinn Fund. We hope you will join our family of supporters or renew your support when our 2010 fundraising campaign begins this May.
Speaking of months, this month's issue of American Theatre magazine, the national magazine for the theatre industry, features a 2-page spread on the Chairs and our Community Supported Theatre initiative. Here's the tease: "A scrappy New York theatre company draws inspiration from farming in order to attain sustained nourishment." Read the full article here... |
Save the date for: Quantum Poetics!
Stolen Chair will be returning to one of our favorite New York venues, the East Village's Connelly Theatre (where Theatre is Dead and So Are You had its world premiere), for the first public presentation of our 13th original work, Quantum Poetics, a science experiment for the stage. We're still developing the script, in conjunction with the pilot season of our Community Supported Theatre, but next newsletter will be filled with more details and rehearsal photos. Stay tuned...
Where: Connelly Theater, 220 E 4th St, NYC
When: June 11-13

Masks + Fights = Superhero or Stolen Chair?
Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep Stolen Chair from teaching theatre
Though the February blizzard tried to thwart our commedia dell'arte workshop,we celebrated Global Commedia dell'Arte Day in style, and hurricane-forced winds and felled trees were not enough to stop us from teaching America's youth how to pretend to beat each other up!
And back by popular demand...Whamm, Bam, Kapow, our 1 day stunt camp for kids, will be returning to Greenwich, CT on May 15. You can find out more here or register at http://stunt.stolenchair.org.

Stolen Chair Summer Camp!
Every June, Stolen Chair offers two short 1-week camps for grades 3-6 at the Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, CT. This year we are offering:
On Broadway!
Sing, dance, and play theatre games with New York’s Stolen Chair Theatre Company: Broadway vocal coach Emily Otto and professional dancer Liza Wade Green. Each camper will get his or her very own solo in a big number from a contemporary Broadway musical and receive one-on-one vocal coaching. On Broadway! is a great way to gain confidence, inspire creativity, and overcome stage fright. No experience is necessary.
Whamm, Bam, Kapow!
If you’ve ever watched an action movie and asked how they make the fights looks so real, this camp is for you! GCDS Drama Teacher Jon Stancato and a professional stuntman will teach campers how to (safely!) pull hair, yank ears, slap, punch, kick, choke, run into walls, drag, push, fall, slip, and roll. We’ll even create fights between super-powered characters! Each camper will get a YouTube video of their “fight reel.” No experience is necessary. Just come ready to work up a sweat and laugh until your sides hurt!
